I use a meat thermometer or a nail to tap on each end break through the membrane. Make small hole.Then blow the guts out if the egg. I rinse in water shake rinse again and let dry. Then you can paint. Break a toothpick in half or a wire even pipe cleaner and tie fishing line or ribbon to hang on saved branch for an egg tree.
